4 easy and fun games you can play in person or on zoom with grandchildren

Whether you get to see your grandchildren in-person soon – or like us, still need to rely on video chats to stay connected, keep these easy games up your sleeve to have some instant fun.

I’ve made them Easter themed, but they can be used at any time of year.

Hopping Bunnies

• Ask grandchildren (or parents) to have pillowcases on hand
• If on video, invite the cousins to make it even more fun.
• Designate yourself the Bunny Director and ask them to hop inside of the
pillowcase: on one leg, two legs, with eyes closed, with one hand in pocket,
left hand on their head, to the couch, to the kitchen, etc.)

Crafting Together with Household Items

I’m always on the lookout for easy crafts for grandparents. To me, easy is something that doesn’t require extra materials and that only has a few steps. This is an excellent list: Easy easter crafts using household objects

Doing crafts together on video chats, or in-person is such a lovely way to connect because you can talk about the craft, help one another decide where to put an eye, what colour to use, or with little ones just chatting about shapes and colours is fun.

Teach your Grandchild a Joke They Can Share

It’s fun to share jokes with grandchildren, but it’s even more of a connection point if you can ask mom or dad to leave the room so you can teach them a joke to tell other people.

This is easily the best list of Easter jokes, riddles and puns I’ve ever found.

Write out a few on sticky notes so you have them ready.

Tell your grandchild you are going to share 2 or 3 jokes and that they have to pick the one they like most to memorize so they can share it with mom or dad.

Memory Tray Game (Easter Themed or silly objects)

• Ask grandchildren to prepare a memory tray and prepare one yourself. You can do this on a baking tray and cover with a tea towel. It can be spring themed (egg, worm, a flower petal) or just a silly group of random objects (a piece of tissue, a fork, a packet of gum, etc.).
• Show them the tray for 30 seconds to a minute, depending on their age
• Ask them to write down what they remember.
• Now it’s your turn to remember what they have on their tray!

Happy Connecting!
